FAQs — Personal Training in Royal Oak

Everything most people ask before their first session — answered straight.

What is small group personal training?

Small group personal training is one certified personal trainer leading a handful of members — at Alloy Royal Oak, never more than six — through workouts programmed for each individual. You get the coaching and customization of a personal trainer with the energy, community, and lower cost of training alongside others.

How is it different from 1-on-1 personal training?

You still get a program built around your body, your goals, and your training history, with a coach watching your form every session. The difference is cost: because up to six members share the session, you get personal-training-level coaching without the one-on-one price tag.

How is it different from a class gym or bootcamp?

In a class, everyone does the same workout at the same pace, and one instructor can't watch thirty people. At Alloy Royal Oak, sessions are capped at six and every exercise can be modified or progressed to fit you. No leaderboards, no competitions.

What happens at my first session?

Your first visit is a Complimentary Session at our studio at 25030 Woodward Avenue. You'll talk through your goals and health history with a trainer, complete a functional movement assessment and an InBody body composition analysis, and finish with an introductory workout scaled to you — then we recommend the membership that actually fits.

Who is Alloy for — and who is it not for?

Our members are mostly adults 40 and over who want to stay strong, capable, and independent — people training for life, not for a competition. If you're after a high-intensity bootcamp scene, we're happily not that.

Do I need to be in shape before I start?

No. Many members walk in after months or years away from exercise. Every workout is coached and modified to your current level — the entire point of having a trainer in the room is that you don't need to arrive "ready."

I have an old injury (bad knee, shoulder, back). Can I still train?

Talk to your trainer — most members bring some history with them. Your coach learns yours at your first session and builds modifications directly into your program. For medical questions about exercise, check with your doctor first.

What does a typical session look like?

About 55 minutes, coach-led from start to finish: a guided warm-up, strength training programmed for your body, and coaching on every set. We run morning and evening sessions on weekdays and Saturday mornings — no wandering a gym floor wondering what to do next.

How much does it cost?

Membership depends on how often you train, and the right frequency depends on your goals. Book a Complimentary Session and we'll walk you through the options that fit — straightforward pricing, no pressure.

Where are you located? Is there parking?

We're at 25030 Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, serving Royal Oak, Pleasant Ridge, Huntington Woods, Ferndale, Berkley, and the surrounding communities. Reach us at the studio for directions and parking details — we're easy to find on Woodward.
